Thank you for your patience, support and understanding when we suddenly had to transition into remote learning last week. Data shows that over 450 students were accessing the remote learning website every day, with activity starting before 8am, peaking around 10am, and then dropping off at mid-day. We understand how difficult it is for parents to fulfil their own work requirements whilst supervising your child’s learning; so thanks so much for your support.
Student learning and cyber safety – This is an area we place a lot of emphasis on at school, and it really also needs to be reinforced in the home environment. We regularly place information in the Newsletter on how to tighten privacy and security settings, and also provide tips on educating your child more about cyber-safety. Please keep a look out in the Welfare/Wellbeing section of the Newsletter for fact sheets, safety guides for platforms such as ‘tiktok’ and ‘snapchat,’ as well as general ‘esafety.’ The ‘esafety’ Commissioner has made some awesome resources available online, which are well worth a look and give parents an insight into how we approach cyber safety in schools. They can be accessed on: https://www.esafety.gov.au/educators/classroom-resources
Classroom movement – In the last few weeks of term there will be a bit of preparation in anticipation of the ‘big move’ into the new building. Although some classes will be housed in temporary teaching spaces, we will try our utmost to limit any impact on student learning and our educational program.
School Council – At the last School Council meeting a decision was made to change providers for the school’s cleaning contract. As such we will be saying good-bye to Ange and her team at the end of next week. We would like to thank them for their services over the years and also for employing some young locals in their team. Our new cleaning contract has been awarded to the Cloverdale Group Facilities Services.
Enrolments – Just another reminder that if you or any of your friends intend enrolling students at Bellbrae next year, to please do so as soon as possible. Although it is only the middle of the year, we are already planning our staffing profile and learning spaces for 2022, and the sooner we know anticipated numbers, the easier the process becomes.
Queen’s Birthday – Although not many people care too much about royalty, something we do care about is public holidays! Please remember that there is no school this coming Monday.
Covid Safety – There are a number of posters with QR Codes on display around the school, so please do the right thing and do a quick scan when you are on campus. This is something you probably are all getting used to, and although it can be a bit of a pain, it is an important practice.
Enjoy your long weekend and let’s hope this Antarctic blast we’ve just had doesn’t hang around too long. Although the days are shorter, there are still plenty of activities we can do in fading light, so get out there, be active, and enjoy where we live. Just remember your beanie, gloves, hoodie and facemask!
